Surf Camp Inspires Students Both In and Out of the Ocean
San Diego surf camps have a long-standing history of teaching students how to build independent surfing skills in the ocean. But did you know that surf camps in San Diego have the ability to inspire our students in the classroom as well?
Alex with Surf Education Academy is a longtime future legends surf club member. He typically spends his afternoons surfing with SEA at La Jolla Shores, working to improve his surfing ability and continue his competence towards independence in the ocean. Alex isn’t shy about sharing that school isn’t always his favorite activity. If you remember back to Middle School, was it yours?
If we’re all honest with ourselves, we’ll remember those awkward and strange middle school experiences that potentially inspired us to do less than our best work in the classroom. While Alex occasionally struggles with his academic work, you would never know based on his time with Surf Education Academy. Alex is not only an excellent surfer, but an incredible steward of the ocean, and works to ensure that San Diego is a surfing destination that we can all enjoy.
After a long afternoon of surfing, Alex reflects on the impact that Surf Education Academy has had on his experience in the classroom: “ surfing inspires me to learn more about the ocean at school. I like doing projects which help me learn more about waves and animals in the ocean that I might see when I’m surfing“.
Not only does Surfing with SEA inspire Alex‘s academic work, but his behavioral work as well. “When I have a hard day at school, and I know I have SEA after school, I just feel relaxed. I know that I’ll be able to let things go and just surf.” Alex isn’t the first, nor the last surfer to express this sentiment.
