ISA SUP Instructor Certifications

The Surf Education Academy has an exclusive partnership with the International Surfing Association (ISA) to deliver the ISA Educational Programs in the United States.  The ISA Certifications are the only internationally recognized Surf and SUP Instructor Certifications and set the benchmark for the Surf and SUP industries.  Get certified and live the endless summer by teaching surfing around the world!

The objectives of the ISA Coaching & Instructing Program:

  • To establish an international system of Coaching and Instructing Courses, improving the safety and efficacy of surf instruction around the world.
  • To further develop, through educational programs, a body of knowledge on which Coaches and Instructors may draw.
  • To provide Coaches and Instructors with employment opportunities, encouragement and support.
  • To advance SUP and Surf coaching and instructing as a globally standardized and highly professional activity with stringent requirements
     

ISA SUP Flat Water

This is an introductory course for Stand Up Paddle and offers the basic skills and considerations for using a SUP in a flat-water setting.

Prerequisites: Must be a competent Stand Up Paddler

Follow Up Requirements: In order to receive the ISA SUP Flat Water Certification from the ISA you must complete the following, in addition to sitting the course:

- ISA SUP Flat Water Workbook
- 20 documented practical hours
- Obtain a valid Water Safety Certification

 

ISA SUP Surf

This course goes over the necessary skills to teach proper etiquette and technique for SUP in ocean waves.

Prerequisites: ISA SUP Flat Water Certification

Follow Up Requirements: In order to receive the ISA SUP Surf Certification from the ISA you must complete the following, in addition to sitting the course:

- ISA SUP Surf Workbook
- 20 documented practical hours
- Obtain a valid Water Safety Certification

 

ISA SUP Open Water

This course is designed for instructors that will be teaching distance SUP, including in the ocean, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water.

Prerequisites: ISA SUP Flat Water

Follow Up Requirements: In order to receive the ISA SUP Open Water Certification from the ISA you must complete the following, in addition to sitting the course:

- ISA SUP Surf Workbook
- 20 documented practical hours
- Obtain a valid Water Safety Certification
